Week 5, Term 4, 2024

View my video update.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As we reach the mid-point of Term 4, we’re entering an exciting part of the school year, with many great events and activities underway. Thank you for your continued enthusiasm and involvement – it makes a big difference as we work together to create memorable experiences for our students.

The Fete Countdown Is On!

The biggest event of the year, our annual Fete, is fast approaching! There’s a great buzz building around the school, and it promises to be a wonderful day for families, friends, and the entire community. A mountain of work is currently underway, led by our wonderful Parents and Friends Association. I know the PFA is always seeking more volunteers, donations and support, so if you’re not already involved in some way, please lend a hand. This event is a wonderful celebration of the collaborative culture that makes our school so special.

Expanding Science of Learning Practices

Our expansion of Science of Learning practices into more classrooms is progressing well. It’s inspiring to see students engaging deeply with these evidence-based approaches, and our leadership team is hard at work preparing for even broader changes across the school next year. In this fortnight’s video update, I had the pleasure of speaking with a couple of Year 2 students who shared their thoughts on these new learning strategies. Be sure to check it out to hear directly from the students about their experiences.

Budget and Staffing Changes

A number of parents have reached out with questions regarding the staffing changes we’re undergoing in response to declining enrolments and the resulting impact on our staffing funding, particularly in light of the new school set to open in Port Melbourne in 2026 (interim name Fisherman’s Bend PS.)

This topic continues to be discussed at School Council, including at our meeting last Tuesday. I understand the desire for more clarity around what this means for our community. School Council has continued to follow up on this matter with the relevant authorities to gather more data and information, and families can expect direct communication from the Council as we learn more.

Thank you all for the part you’ve played in a great start to the term, I’m looking forward to what the second half has in store for us.

Warm regards,
