At Port Melbourne Primary School, learning extends far beyond the classroom.
Our reputation as one of the leading inner Melbourne primary schools comes from long standing history. We have proudly been part of the Port Melbourne community for over 130 years and we are one of the oldest primary schools in Victoria. Since 1889 we’ve built:
- A strong and inclusive culture
- Well-established programs
- A clear vision to empower every child from day one.
Specialist programs
We believe every child should have the opportunity to explore their interests, discover their strengths, and contribute to something bigger than themselves.
Our students are encouraged to try new things, embrace challenges, and pursue excellence in:
- sport
- the arts
- STEM
- leadership
- sustainability
- cultural connection initiatives.
Outdoor learning
Our location near the beach, Port Phillip Bay, local sporting grounds, and major facilities such as Albert Park Lake and MSAC provides many opportunities for outdoor learning. These experiences help students develop teamwork, confidence, and adaptability.
Students also take part in a range of camps and excursions throughout their time at the school. These activities extend learning beyond the classroom, encourage independence, and help students build strong friendships.
Our students have enjoyed camps at a range of locations across Victoria, including:
-
Billabong Ranch, Echuca
-
Mt Evelyn
-
Marysville
-
Camp Jungai, Rubicon Valley.
Activities before and after school
At PMPS, we offer wraparound care that keeps students connected to school life from before the first bell to well into the afternoon. Before and after-school activities, lunchtime clubs, and community events add richness and variety to the learning experience.
Our families enjoy the benefits of before and after-school care and activities combined with peace of mind, knowing that children are safe, supported, and thriving in a welcoming school environment.
Students can take part in a wide range of activities that build friendships, confidence, and new skills, including:
- Sport (tennis, basketball, football, soccer)
- Music (private and group lessons for piano, guitar and drums) and Choir
- Chess club
- Gardening and sustainability activities
-
Young engineers
These opportunities help students explore their interests, connect with peers across year levels, and make the most of their time at school.
