Port Melbourne Primary School is a public, co-educational primary school catering for students from Prep to Year 6. Located in the beautiful inner-Melbourne bayside community of Port Melbourne, it offers a range of learning environments designed to nurture and inspire students. The campus is situated on the corner of Graham and Clark Streets, adjacent to the expansive Beacon Reserve and close to the sports fields at Murphy Reserve.

The original school building, constructed in 1890, was extensively renovated in 2008 to house the administration area as well as five open plan learning spaces. A new building incorporating a Library, an Art Room and six open plan learning spaces was completed in 2009, while a second building comprising a multi-purpose Hall, a Music Room and two open-plan learning spaces was completed in 2010. Four multi-story classroom blocks have been incorporated into the school facilities since 2011 and these are now grouped on the Walter Street side of the school as D Block – our senior school. During 2018, a new gymnasium incorporating a competition standard netball/basketball court was constructed along the Clark Street frontage and in 2019 our existing multi-purpose Hall has been reconfigured as an Arts Hub.

Further projects since 2021 have rejuvenated additional learning spaces as well as our administration centre and Languages and STEM facilities. Our grounds include multiple sporting fields and playgrounds nestled among plenty of space for students to explore and play.

Supporting students in play

There are times when children prefer a quieter, less active break during lunchtimes. This is why we developed our passive play areas. These areas give the students a chance to enjoy some fresh air but engage in activities of drawing, reading, role play, or just sitting and chatting with friends. Students have also created a 'buddy bench' where students feeling sad or excluded can sit and let others know how they are feeling.

Campus facilities

Our school has well-resourced classrooms and access to music, art and sport facilities, with experienced staff members to facilitate programs to meet the academic, social, physical and emotional needs of each child. Our facilities include; co-teaching and flexible learning spaces, arts and music hub, library, gymnasium, passive play areas, and sports oval with running track.
