Dear Families,

Each year, students in Years 4–6 complete the Department’s Attitudes to School Survey. Last year, our students reported significant improvements across every area of this survey. These improvements were linked to the ongoing hard work of our teachers and support staff, as well as the introduction of our Proud Port Behaviours framework, which has strengthened the way we support and recognise positive behaviour across our school.

This year, I’m pleased to share that we’ve not only maintained those gains but, in many areas, strengthened them further. For the first time, Port Melbourne Primary is now outperforming our local network and “statistically similar schools” across most areas of the survey.

As we’ve undertaken major changes in our teaching and learning model, it’s encouraging to see this reflected so strongly in our students’ experiences. Their feedback highlights improvements in areas such as:

• Differentiation and challenge in the classroom
• Classroom behaviour
• Experiences of bullying

Of course, as with any broad data set, there are also areas we’ll continue to work on. Our leadership team will carefully consider this feedback and feed it into our ongoing improvement efforts, ensuring we keep building on what’s working well while refining areas where we can do better.

As in previous years, data from this survey will be shared in our Annual Report, and elements also contribute to our official school performance reports.
