Term 1, Week 9
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we wrap up Term 1, I want to thank you all for your support over the past nine weeks. It’s been a great start to the year, full of positive momentum and important changes.
In Our Classrooms
As I’ve shared with you before, one of the biggest transformations this year has been our move toward more evidence-based instruction, and as I’ve shared previously, we’re already seeing strong early benefits. Our teachers have worked incredibly hard to adapt their approach, embedding explicit teaching routines that provide clearer learning pathways, greater student engagement, and improved outcomes. Their willingness to refine their practice and embrace these changes has been key to ensuring our students receive the best possible education, and I want to acknowledge their outstanding work. Change is never easy, but their dedication is already making a real difference in our classrooms.
Our intervention program has also commenced over the past fortnight. Our newest intervention team member has hit the ground running, conducting assessments with students to identify key areas for targeted support. As we continue to build this team, the principal team has stepped in to provide direct intervention lessons, ensuring that students identified through our literacy testing receive immediate support.
I’ve personally loved delivering some of these sessions, and working in small groups with students. It’s been incredibly rewarding to witness their growth already in just a few short lessons. The confidence boost that comes with targeted support is invaluable, and I look forward to expanding these opportunities in the coming terms.
In Our Community
Last week, families received their new progress reports—a key part of our revamped reporting model. Throughout last year, we consulted extensively with both families and staff to shape this new approach. One of the clearest messages we heard was that families wanted earlier insight into their child’s learning.
While it’s challenging to provide comprehensive academic updates so early in the semester, we’re pleased that this new model offers a timely update on learning behaviours, helping families understand how their child is engaging with their education. These early insights allow for more meaningful conversations about learning and provide a clearer picture of each student’s progress throughout the year.
I’ll provide more detail about our updated semester reports in Term 2 updates, including how recent changes to the Victorian Curriculum will be reflected. This will help families know what to expect when reports are released at the end of next term.
As we head into the break, I want to thank all of our students, staff, and families for making this such a productive and positive start to the year. I hope you all enjoy a well-deserved rest and come back refreshed for an exciting Term 2!
